This mountain 20 minutes from Lake Orta, with huge pastures at the top, belongs to the Mergozzolo chain. Mottarone enjoys a particularly panoramic position, offering various opportunities for sports and hiking, on foot, on horseback and by bike in the summer. Situated on the western shore of Lake Orta, Pella is a typical village on the shores of Cusio. Less known than its neighbor, Orta, the town is located at the foot of the granite cliff on which stands the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso, which offers a unique view.

The current basilica dates back to the 12th century and was modeled on the ancient cathedral of Novara. Inside, not to be missed, in addition to many beautiful frescoes and paintings, a very rare and equally precious pulpit carved in green serpentine marble from Oira, supported by 4 much older columns. The pulpit is decorated with symbols dear to Christianity and a male figure that could represent the abbot Guglielmo da Volpiano born on the island in 962.
